Wheeling is a village in the Illinois counties of Cook and Lake. It is mainly located in Cook County, about 23 miles (37 kilometers) northwest of downtown Chicago. At the 2010 census, the population was 37,648. Wheeling is named after the West Virginia town of Wheeling.
Wheeling was once a stopover for Chicago visitors on their way to the Wisconsin Territory. During the 1830s, a variety of taverns, inns, and restaurants were built on what is now known as Restaurant Row in Wheeling. In 1886, the Wisconsin Central Railroad passed through the area. Wheeling was incorporated in 1894.
